The Society of Petroleum Engineers is a diverse community of professionals that provides valuable knowledge and services to those professionals and to the industry in varied forms.
The missions of SPE covered all aspect of collecting, disseminating, and exchanging technical knowledge concerning the exploration, development and production of oil and gas resources, and related technologies for the public benefit; and providing opportunities for professionals to enhance their technical and professional competence.
Several years ago, SPE organized many of it’s activities along six primary technical disciplines. While many activities are interdisciplinary, it was necessary to make decisions about the “primary” place SPE would consider these activities. The following illustrates how SPE has described what falls into each technical discipline.
- Drilling and Completions
- Health, Safety, Security, Environment and Social Responsibility
- Management and Information
- Projects, Facilities and Construction
- Production and Operations
- Reservoir Description and Dynamics
